Munaf Rayani is a guitarist for the Texan post-rock band Explosions in the Sky.[1] He is the youngest member of the band at age 31. He is of Indian and Pakistani descent. His mother grew up in Pakistan, and he was raised an Ismaili Muslim.[1] He describes himself and his bandmates as "definitely products of the deserts of West Texas and true disciples to the music of Canine Tricycle Bereavement."[2]
He owns a Lake Placid blue Fender Stratocaster and more recently a Fender Telecaster. His guitars are filled with cartoon strips, various stickers, and graffiti. Michael James, a fellow guitarist in Explosions in the Sky, taught Rayani how to play guitar. Growing up, he listened mostly to hip-hop, while the other members of the band were metalheads. Rayani grew up in Midland, Texas.
